The project focuses on the “moving across” of divergent materials in-between and
within artistic processes. The materials are becoming agents and actors that point to
different views on medial border-crossings and hybridization. In the case of
intermediality each medial form is presented in its own materiality, which contributes
to the signification of its artistic product. The media- and material-fusion charts
critical approaches to interdisciplinary directions and raises questions around the
operativity of each material. What happens, for example, when a pictorial figure or a
diagram crosses a work of literature or when colors become protagonists in a novel?
How does the material act or resist when a work of art shifts from one medium to
another? Is de-materialization and re-materialization a process that leads to a new
aesthetical experience? Scholars from the University of Potsdam and the University of
Athens are invited to explore together this interdisciplinary territory through various
activities (symposium, workshops, guided tours).
