Feminism has been a prominent topic of discussion over the last century. To many, it’s a movement. A consciousness. A revolution. To others, it’s unimportant. A threat. A bad idea. No matter the stance, everyone has heard about feminism in some context. The question to ask is not “what is feminism” but “how many ways does feminism exist?” More than that, the feminist discourse that surrounds these conversations often stems from Western ideology (England, the U.S., and Germany), neglecting how feminist discourse also exists elsewhere (South Korea, Egypt, and Brazil)—and has for decades. This is a common gap for many individuals, but it is because of this gap that education on how feminism exists outside of Western countries is so vital. The purpose of the course is meant to serve you in two ways: to give you the tools to confidently engage in academic discourse on a micro and macro level, and to educate on feminism across all borders.
