Dear Students,

the presentations today went quite well, and I hope the comments posted will help you in writing the accompanying paper. In case there were multiple authors on the presentation, please share my comments with all authors.

If you have any questions or need additional advice, please send me an email offline or in case of general question, please use the forum for Assignments #1 & #2.  Make sure you put the course acronym in the subject line to catch attention.

Let me reiterate a few general points across presentations:

  • Reweigh actors for the Council and EP such that the EP and the Council each add up to 100 points of potential influence
  • Use more graphs to display the dynamics of negotiations.  This also assists your analysis.
  • Will negotiations be that short in reality?
    • What does a round mean in terms of time?
    • Assume: No end rule triggered: What does this mean and for how many rounds do you have to run the PG?
      • mention which end rule ("1"s you use)
  • Is there a majority in the EP and in the Council each to warrant an agreement (only with the actors included in the model runs)?
I wish you good progress in the final push.  The Assignment #2 papers are due on 19 Jan. 2025, i.e., in ten days.  Stick to the word limit to keep it manageable.

Thank you for all your comments and suggestions over lunch.  This will be helpful in setting up next year's course.

Best wishes,
Detlef Sprinz
